Monkey Madness

Hey we're briefly stopping in town on the way back to the lodge from the horseback ride day 2. Remember, the group that did the creek walk (below post) did the horseback ride today.
Everybody on both trips is healthy, happy, and a little bit tired. Later we'll share more of the incredible photos we have of the wildlife we've seen -- fantastic shots of birds, monkeys, plants and other animals. Well, got to go, we need to get dinner started before dark in 1 hr...

We send our best to all.

Message from Capt. Morgan -- this is the best crew we've had by far! Amazing students with a thirst for education and adventure!!!

Hola! It’s Max! Today we went on the most amazing hike ever in my life. We went on a tour of a creek in a primary forest. Our guide, Adonis, is an Indian native to Costa Rica. When we went on the hike, we saw a lot of animals. There were a ton of amazing waterfalls, including one that we jumped through. We went through the creek, which had a few deep spots and saw some Capuchin monkeys in the water. We were all of the sudden surrounded by a troop of thirty monkeys. It was almost like we were in the zoo and they were looking at us. It was the most amazing thing that any of us, including Adonis, had ever seen. About five snarled at us and scared us into shock for about twenty seconds. We had to wade in water that came up to our chin. We had to climb over five waterfalls and many rocks. It was amazing!
To the followers of Max
Mom, Dad and Lindsay, I am doing fine and I thank you for your support. Uncle Sandy thank you for following me and Happy Birthday Will! The Clipsons I am doing fine and thanks for looking out for me. To everyone else I am living the “Pura Vida!” or “Pure Life”.

Hope you had a great day today! We miss you. Clover keeps going to your room. Jack and Andrew went to school today and people wanted to know what you meant by "If they hadn't killed each other yet". Oddly enough things are quite peaceful between them ---ever since last Friday about 5am.
Great pictures. I think the type of bug that you photographed on the leaf is a favorite of big fat rodents...right Jeanne?

  11. Hola Costa Cameron

How do you say, "looks like a great trip", in Spanish? However you say it, looks like fun! Love the pictures and comments. Try any coffee yet? Answer me this important question Cam. Is Costa Rica as much fun as a barrel of Howler Monkeys?

Be safe, have fun, learn much.
    Love ya,
    Auntie Sharona :)

  13. Hey CB & Ryan,
Hope you got my last message... looks like I must have been posting as you were putting together the blog for today.

Thanks to the Sherlocks, I'm now back up to speed on the blog. Apparently refreshing your screen isn't enough when the title of the last viewed blog populates your web address. I was afraid the monkeys had gotten the best of you! Luckily it was just the computer operator.

Hey Ryan... how are those new 'shades' working out? Pretty cool, huh? And the shoes, any blisters? Hope not or I'm sure Dad will remind you that he told you that you should have worn them more around the house.

Chloe is definitely missing you both. I'm doing my best to wear her out so she forgets that you're gone. She's definitely enjoying sleeping in Dad's spot though. She certainly looks cute all curled up under the blankets.

CB - Don't stay too long... between Chloe in the bed and Sam in your car, you may need new digs!!! Just kidding.

In the words of CB, 'Love ya'!
    Mrs. CB :) out...

We're enjoyig the pictures and commentaries about the daily events. Keep them coming.

    Danielle,

Looks like you're having a great time. Don't let your cheeks and nose get sun burned - put the sunscreen in those two spots heavy and often. We all miss you, even the frogs I think!! I like Mrs. Kanitz's idea about redecorating rooms while you guys are away. We got a great deal on paint from the Cincinnati Roads Crew and are in the process of painting your room a vivid canary yellow (like the yellow lines on the streets)!! :-) Grandma came over for dinner this evening and we showed her the blog - she was pretty amazed and enjoyed the pictures. Stay healthy, we miss you. Love you a bunch.

    Dad-
Nice blogging and attempt at speaking Spanish. Tu no hablas espanol bien. We love looking at all of the pictures and reading about what you guys are doing. I know you're taking pictures..we saw you in the background of one of the pictures. We're doing fine. Michael has exams and Morgan has nothing because there's no dance this week. It's not the same without you here though. We love you!

    Connor-
It's nice to know that you weren't taken by monkeys. We weren't sure because you weren't in any of the pictures from the post before this one. We liked the picture of you mid-air. We also liked the picture of you with the tour guide. Enjoy the whole experience because it's one that you'll remember forever! We love you con con.

p.s. michael says to tell chas that we enjoy his smile.

  25. Franklin and Jeanne,
Went to dinner with Leah last night, Hope she had a good time. When you take your walks how close are the monkeys? The waterfalls look wonderful. Franklin hope that you are getting some great pictures, I would really like to see your Mom holding a little monkey. Then I would know that she has really gone back to nature.
Jeanne, only kidding about the hair. What a natural beauty!!
    Take care,

  26. Hey MK,
It's mom. I hope you enjoyed the creek walk yesterday. Did you see any monkey's...hopefully they were nice monkeys! Just so you don't feel left out...I noticed your shoulders were looking a little pink and you were wearing a towel on the tractor ride...so either use more sunscreen or wear a t-shirt! Ollie was in your room last night looking for you! He misses you. Don't worry though, we have been rememebering to feed them! Have fun today! Thank you to all the chaperones for taking care of our kids and for all the kind words.

  27. Max, I enjoyed your postings about the walk. It must have been amazing and a little scary to encounter those monkeys. We had such a quiet day yesterday without you all.

Mark, etc., I think that Josh missed you guys in class...

Pre-algebra group..how's that packet coming along?? We started on the same thing yesterday with some really confused folks in our class. I hope that you guys can help each other out with that.. those variables on the opposite side of the equation really throw off some students. Variables?? What's that?? Hopefully the sun and sunscreen won't affect you too badly.
Have fun and keep the messages coming!

We've been checking on you everyday and it looks like you are having the time of your lives! We are sooooo jealous. The Grand Canyon trip will seem tame in comparison! Can't wait to see more pictures and hear all about it when we see you in June. Signing off from a very chilly Boston, MA.

With much love! xxoo Mary, Chris and Lew

  34. Hey everyone! Miss you Lots! It looks so superly fun! Superly isn't a word is it...oh well haha! You are so lucky. I miss you seriously. Emily Marie you better blog me, as goes for you too Alex and Cate. How is everyone? Today at school, we had a lock down thing. Supposedly someone had heard that two people from the jail had escaped and they were possibly near Kentucky, or in the tri-state?. Haha we had to turn out all the lights in our room and move to the other side of the room. I was in Mrs. C's Class at the time. Everyone was spazzing out, but quite frankly I was enjoying it, and kind of thought it was exciting. It lasted maybe fore 10-15 minutes. It wasn't that bad. But anyways I miss ALL of you. And Mr. Laudeman I wish you were here to sing that happy happy birthday song. I watched the video that you sang for MaryKate and Emily. How sweet! Miss and love you all! :D

    Hi Joe,
This looks like the most amazing trip ever. We all wish that we could come to Costa Rica and spend time there! Your little cousins Matthew and Gracie are very impressed with your adventures. They especially liked the pictures of kids walking through waterfalls. Gracie was a little scared of the monkeys but Matthew thought they looked cool.
